Question...

Ok. To all you mom's out there:
What do you do to contain all the school papers, church artwork, colorings and other misc. papers that your children accumulate over the years?
My boys' papers just seems to be piling here and there and everywhere and I cannot seem to find an adequate way to "organize".
Any suggestions?

(Mom, don't laugh too hard! Yes, I know that I am a paper-stacker by nature, but this is an attempt to at least try to organize PART of the accumulation of papers here...)

Trash. Recycle. That is the only remedy that I have found so far. For the few - and I mean FEW - things that I do keep, I have a file box that I put them in. I read somewhere to take pictures of their art things and then make a photo book - but toss the actual creation.

For Homeschool, I have a 3 ring binder that is seperated by subject. And one subject is Art = so everything has to fit there. I have taken some pictures of stuff - that can go into their binders... eventually.

I use a box for each kid filled with files that say: Kindergarten, first grade, second grade etc all the way through High School. I teach the boys how to file in their box. Then every paper they want to keep goes in that box filed in the right year. Years for that box are from September first day of school to August last day of school. Then, on the last weeks of summer before the new school year, we go through the box together and toss what we don't want to keep. I try to keep one math, one spelling, one writing and any art. NO ONE is really going to want all the stuff in the file, but it makes the boys feel good for now.

I'm obviously not at the "organize everything from every school year" stage of filing my kids' stuff... but for the moment I have a huge plastic storage box for each kid that has keepsakes, drawings, etc, in it. I also use the bottom drawer of my desk to keep stuff I think I might like to keep. I write their first initial, a date, and any description they give. When the drawer fills up, I do another cull and put the good stuff in their storage box. The desk drawer is handy to "keep" their stuff in case they remember and ask about it, but if they haven't remembered it by the time I clear out the drawer, and I don't want to keep it, then it's gone! Seriously, if it's not memorable after a month, it WON"T be memorable in years. And like Jenn said, I do take pictures of some of it and then toss... I can't get my head around any other system of keeping their stuff yet, so a big plastic box seems like a good start! LOL...
