And this last one, cause this is what I have felt like ALL week.
Have a great Friday, y’all!
= black eyes & broken nose.
And, no. I am not describing something one of my boys did. I am describing what I did last Wednesday evening after the boys were in bed.
I went in to turn off Jakob’s light on the top bunk and mis-judged how close I was to the ceiling fan that was on and… {whack} it hit me hard enough that it woke Chris in the other room. Choice words were said, but I still had the brains to stick one hand up to stop the fan from hitting my head again and duck down. Surprisingly, it didn’t bleed hardly at all. Isaac got me a cold, wet wash cloth and then I sent the boys back to sleep, stumbling out to the couch – where I clicked a picture: (and this TOTALLY doesn’t do it justice!)
After my brain could think again, my first thought was if I needed to go to the ER. I could still see, which I figured was a good thing – it was getting blurry, but I was able to see. Boys were in bed and nearly asleep – except Chris who was worried about me. I slept on and off on the couch with ice and/or a cold washcloth on my face until 3am, when I went to my bed.
I was doing OK in the morning, but decided to call the Dr and get an appointment anyway just to be sure. They got me in at 3:40 that afternoon. I managed to get the boys to school (all 3 of them) and me to work, explaining and laughing the whole time. This was Thursday:
The Dr. gave me some pain meds, said that I probably broke my nose, gave me orders for an x-ray of my neck which was hurting pretty good since, and sent me to the eye Dr. He dilated my eyes, checked the pressure, looked and checked and measured. After all that he said that I was very luck that I didn’t pop my eye. I had no damage or even bleeding in or around my eye. He suspects that the blurriness that I am having is due to the swelling and will go away as the swelling does.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday were bad days. I felt horrible – my eyes, nose, cheeks, neck, FACE hurt. It didn’t help that I looked horrible. I would get looks of pity and questions from people I knew. I eventually would just say “bunk bed plus ceiling fan equals broken nose and black eyes.” That was a short and sweet answer.
This is what it looks like today (Monday):
My nose is still a little swollen and the purple bruise has turned to a lovely shade of black and blue with yellow and is under both eyes. Still not feeling great.
Don’t laugh, it’s not funny (yet).
Here’s to Monday. Joy.
Chris has been begging me for a while to cut this mop of a head of hair. We finally had a chance to just get it done! I wanted to just trim it an inch or two, but he wanted to whack it off (hair is one battle I choose not to fight, it is their head and their hair and as long as they take care of it…). So, off it went. {sigh}
This is the BEFORE:
DURING: (he SO didn’t want me taking this pic, but I said that I wouldn’t finish the cut unless he let me!)
and AFTER:
One inch buzz cut. Seriously. When did this kid grow up?
Yeah, Yeah. I know it is Saturday, but I wanted to leave Friday for just Jake’s Birthday…
For all of those friends out there that still choose to be seen in public with me… LOVE YOU! ;)
This cute little boy
has turned into this handsome young man…
Jake. Oh, my Jakob. You truly are a unique kid.
You are my middle boy, yet taller than your big brother.
You are fluent in spanish and (for reasons known only to God) can entertain the masses with “duck-speak”.
You amaze me everyday.
You have a heart of gold, love to play with the little kids, not realizing how much they are looking up to you.
Jake, your smile lights up a room and your laughter is contagious.
You willingly give away your hugs to anyone and are just now starting to get embarrassed when I say “I love you” in front of your friends… but you still say it back.
My son, who will eat me out of house and home someday soon, is growing out of my lap way too fast for my liking.
But you will never grow out of my heart, no matter how tall you get (even if it is WAY taller than me).
Happy 9th Birthday Jakob!
